Who you'll meet

Your dental health support worker

Dental health support workers are attached to some nurseries and schools, and provide the main dental contact point for teachers, parents and school nurses. They stay in contact with the nurseries and are available to answer questions or meet with parents at events throughout the school year (e.g. parents evenings, sports days).

They will help you with any questions about the Childsmile programme and assist you with completing the fluoride varnish consent form.

Dental nurses usually work in the dental practice but come to some schools and nurseries to apply fluoride varnish twice a year. They give your child aftercare instructions to take home. It is important that you take these along to your next visit to the dental practice. The dental nurse will give your child information on:

  • how teeth grow and develop.
  • healthy food and drinks.
  • toothbrushing.
